Are Satanists on the Square?

A question no one wants to talk about, particularly after dark on a Sunday. Although at that time you may not find anyone on the square but rather UNDER it. According to sources on the Springfield PD there are a series of tunnels that run under the down town core; one of which opens into a cavern directly beneath the City Square. This cavern shows evidence of much use, runes on the wall and bits of sacrificed animals on the ground.

Is anyone aware of this? Yes some very significant people have known for some time. Is it believed these activities are tied to the role playing game “The Masquerade” played by those found above ground on the square? Yes! There are even some who believe the murder of a woman and her two children is tied directly to some of those who play their games on and under the City’s focal point.

Have you heard about this? Unless you have been talking with someone who participates in the game or you know someone who interacts with such, probably not. Are my sources above all reproach? Yes they are and I have no problem going public with this. Will I be mocked by the foolish and non believer? Of course.

Do I care? No!

Why am I telling you this? Because there is a heart of evil beating in this city; it has been there a long time. It was there when a despicable being by the name of Hickok killed another on the square in 1865. It was there when three innocents where lynched in 1906. It was there when a woman and her two children were murdered in 1995 and it remains there today encouraging mayhem and murder and is I believe the root of much of what is weighing Springfield down today.

Oh I know we educated and sophisticated don’t speak of such things and mock and laugh at those who do but I wonder how many would want to spend a Sunday Night on the square in downtown Springfield?

As a matter of fact I am issuing a challenge to refute me on any of my craziness if you can and what’s more I am challenging those who believe in The Book to get on their knees and pray about all of this and then DO as they believe and are led.

I just subscribed to this blog a few weeks ago and am now a little confused.

Let me get this straight....
You think that there are people worshiping Satan underneath the city square and that this is the root cause of all the murders, robberies and other crimes going on in Springfield? Have you lost your mind?

I think I would be more worried about the people above ground who are consisting paying homage to themselves or others with power/money by erecting another statue, another plaque, another interstate on-ramp or another building built with their name on it. That's the only mayhem I worry about these days.

Oh dear. You know, I've listened to your show a few times and thought you might be nuts. However, because I'm unable to listen to the whole show (have to work, you know) I've given you the benefit of the doubt.

To be clear: You have sources that say that there is a cave directly under the square. In this cave, they say, are "runes" and "bits of sacrificed animals". The people that play a role playing game called "Vampire: The Masquerade" are also the people that use this cave for drawing runes and sacrificing animals. Also, they've murdered a woman and her two children.

You've lost the benefit of the doubt. You're a complete loon!

I played "The Masquerade" when I was 18 (in 1996). I became pretty close with the folks who organized the game. I was at their house or in their presence 4-5 days of the week. Here's the kicker: They never discussed Satan worship, secret lairs (above or below ground), murders, or murdering in the name of Satan in their secret lair.

I still have friends that play on the square on Sunday night. They're good, productive citizens of our city. The "problem" is that they choose to use their imaginations and participate in a form of storytelling that others find threatening.

Why do they find it threatening? Because they don't understand it. Try this: Go downtown on a Sunday night. Go up to someone that's playing the game and ask them to explain it to you. If you're sincere about wanting to learn about what they do, they'll be sincere in showing you.

The only disruption on the square is the fundamentalist "Christians" who forget the "judge not lest ye be judged" verse and condemn the players to hell (unless, of course said players repent and join them at church- yeesh).

When I played the game, there were several times that my friends and I were encircled by these folks as they prayed- very loudly- for our souls. We found this to be a very threatening thing to do. But, we did nothing. Just stood there. Can't walk out of the circle because that would mean having to push through their arms and physically break their circle- that could be assault. Can't talk to them because they ignore you. And you can't yell and scream because that just fuels their "mission". It was ridiculous.

The players on the square are good people. All you have to do is get to know them.

Two more things. 1) You say that the players on the square are "the root of much of what is weighing Springfield down today". Yet, on 08/1/07 you posted a list of 22 silly things that the Springfield admin has done. Number 8 was:

"8. No Cruising…last thing we want is people going downtown."

So which is it? Keep people from downtown or not? Or, is it that you want to be bigoted and keep only certain people from going downtown?

2) You may want to talk to your sources again. This time, do it when you're sober. It'll help you get the facts straight.

"I am issuing a challenge to refute me on any of my craziness"

I'll show you that there are no Satan worshippers on the square when you prove to me that Bigfoot doesn't exist.

So because I hang out with friends on Sunday and tell a story with them, I am now a Satanist?

This is news to me. I guess I should get a T-shirt. I didn't know I was part of a group that kills animals and other innocent beings. I thought I was just spending time with friends I don't see often and relaxing.

As previous people have said, we are a open group who gets together to tell a story in a different way. We don't go in the tunnels, we don't kill animals and we're definitely not the reason of all the crime in springfield. That's laughable.

You use the words sophisticated and educated. Are you implying that those who meet on the square are not?

Most of those people have an education, a decent job and a family. But maybe you are to "sophisticated" to know that.

How about you don't claim you have sources and tips, specially when they obviously aren't credible.

How about you cite some sources and provide proof instead of taking random things and stringing them together.

In re: "Are Satanists on the Square?"
I am a Park Central Square "vampire." Some facts about the game for the uninitiated: The Georgia-based White Wolf publishing company is responsible for Vampire: The Masquerade, a role-playing game in which players take the role of vampires who are trying to hold onto their humanity while hiding from a superstitious and fearful humanity. The game was originally intended for tabletop play, much like TSR's Dungeons and Dragons, but rules were adapted by players and the publisher for live-action role-play. To clarify, live-action "vampires" like myself do not bite one another or endorse any physical contact of any kind between players. They use a set of rules to determine their characters' statistics, roll dice to resolve actions based on those statistics, and drink too much Dr. Pepper.

It's a morbid version of Strat-o-Matic Football (or basketball or hockey).

Unfortunately, like Dungeons and Dragons, V: tM has attracted players who were unable to seperate reality from fantasy and players who have not demonstrated the most maturity. There was a notable case in Florida where teenagers who identified themselves as players of V: tM were arrested for violent crimes. Another negative incident involved tetanus being spread because a player bit another.

The general public doesn't see these things in Springfield, not because there is a Satan-spawned conspiracy to cover them up, but because all of the players involved locally have the common sense to know that the content espoused in White Wolf's books is purely fictional. We do not meet at Park Central Square because of its history, and we have no interest in splashing through sewer water in the Springfield Underground. We meet there because it is a central location. We go and play our game in full view of the public, pick up after ourselves, and leave usually right before midnight, sometimes meeting at local diners to have a laugh and some food. Recently, the Park Central Square game relocated to an indoor location provided by one of the players. Not so we could conduct "wicked rites" in private, but so we would not get rained on.

Mr. Jericho would know none of this, however, because all of his information, as he himself has written has been given to him by "a source." If his source is anything more than his own spiritual fervor, it's second hand, and so being, is not beyond reproach. Mr. Jericho would rather make allegations about the moral character of people with whom he has never interviewed or even observed first hand than to pursue the truth. I will not challenge Mr. Jericho to do anything. I will not demean myself by sinking to his level and casting stones (what does the Bible say about that, by the way? Oh, yeah! Don't do it, ye who is not without sin).

I will, however, encourage parents and people who know players to thumb through the books at Barnes & Noble. One could even go to www.white-wolf.com to see the roots of this game. If you have concerns that the players are coercing your children into something you are not comfortable with it, do what parents should do in many aspects of their children's lives: check it out for yourself and talk to your children about it. Whatever. Just don't be a tool of hate. I don't care if you're an avid Jericho reader or not, if you assault me because you've been led to believe I am a devil worshipper, I am not going to level unholy powers against you. I'm going to call the police.

Dear Mr. Jericho:

Did you forget to take your Thorazine today?

On the other hand, you did state that you were talking crazy. Realization is the first step to recovery.

Mr. Jericho

As one of the gamers in the Square game, I found your comments to be highly insulting and misleading. Yes at first I was very upset but after careful thought, I realized you are just a poor, ignorant fool who should be pitied.

Hatred and rational thought are lost upon you. The sad thing , and that which I pity you most for, is the fact you enjoy being a poor, deluded , ignorant fool.

The gamers on the square are of various religeous beliefs but that isnt important. We are just people who pay our taxes, live our lives and for one day of the week, Sit back and pretend to be someone we are not.

I ask the people who read this man's blogs to please forgive him for his lack of knowledge and to pity him for the ignorance that he seems to have in abundance.

Forgiveness is a virtue after all.

.....whoever told you that there was anything below the square anymore has to have gone seniel 30+ years ago....because last time i checked, there's nothing but dirt and the remains of a few steam tunnels down there.

I have done a LOT of exploring around the downtown Springfield area and can say with almost 99% certainty that there is NO cavern under the park central square... Rumors of one have been spread amongst high school kids for years but there is no evidence of there actually being one to my knowledge and experience.

Oh don't kid yourself. You're neither educated nor sophisticated.

Satanists under the square in a cave.

I guess it's next to the missile silo that's supposedly under the fountain.

It's true, heard it back in the 80's from a reliable source. Are my sources above all reproach? Yes they are and I have no problem going public with this.

Anonymous said...

there are no catacombs beneath the square. Check your sources....go to the library and find whatever records you can of the remodeling of the square. Most importantly, post this comment. I've heard of several people submitting this information and none of the comments get posted.

If your sources are so good, disclose them so we can find out for ourselves. Any good researcher knows that the path to validity begins with making one's sources open to public scruitany.

Thanks for your insanity VJD!

I just found the blogs of several of my friends in your comments! *grin*

Vince,

This may be a stupid question, but the victims mentioned in your post -- are you referring to Cheryl, Tyler and Jennifer Feeney?

thanks

I've never heard of tunnels underneath the square, but there are tunnels under parts of Springfield. Here is a link to a photo of one of them. This is NOT my picture, nor have I been in any tunnels in Springfield.
